Isabel Nickel Project
The Isabel Nickel Project is considered one of the largest nickel laterite deposits in the Pacific. The project has previously been extensively explored and developed by mining and engineering industry leaders, including Inco Limited and Kaiser Engineering.
Axiom has a Prospecting Licence for the project's San Jorge tenement, where a drilling program and development activities are currently underway.
Across the bay, on Isabel Island lies the Kolosori deposit of which Axiom has an application for a Prospecting Licence pending before the government.
Axiom has planned for a direct shipping of ore (DSO) mining operation on both the San Jorge and Kolosori deposits.
This year, on the San Jorge tenement, the company intends to complete its initial round of drilling, issue a maiden JORC Resource statement and complete a Pre-Feasibility study and, subject to permitting and licensing, commence mining in the first half of 2017.
If Axiom receives a favourable response from the Solomon Islands government as to the Kolosori prospeciting license application, the Company intends to also issue the required studies for mining and quickly move the project into production (again subject to permitting and licensing).
West Guadalcanal Project
The West Guadalcanal Project comprises an area of about 485 km² located in the west of Guadalcanal Island. The tenement is adjacent to known Au-Ag deposits, including the Gold Ridge Mine and boasts potential for epithermal Au and porphyry Cu-Au style deposits. The exploration targets of Taho, Polo and Mt Tanjili lie within a 10 km long carbonate base metal gold epithermal corridor.
Axiom gained a Prospecting Licence for the project in January 2014, and undertook exploration until early 2015. A total of 2050m was drilled, with 12 holes completed.
With the Company’s focus on the Isabel Nickel Project in 2015 Axiom undertook a strategic review of all operations, including the West Guadalcanal Project.
The technical review was carried out over four regions that covered Axiom’s key prospect areas — Taho, Polo and Mount Tanjilli. All targets were ranked by evaluating the geology, geochemistry, geophysics data as well as access to the prospect areas.
Axiom has submitted its renewal application for this project.
