Board of Directors

Axiom Mining has a Board of four Directors comprising two non-executive directors, and two executive directors.

  • Jake W Gray, MAusIMM (Director)

Jake Gray has wide experience in business and a background in the exploration/mining industry spanning 25 years. In Papua New Guinea he was co-founding director of PNG Mining l Explorations N.L. and subsequently managing director of Carpenter Pacific Resources N.L. Ltd until his retirement in early 1990. As a founding director of Axiom Mining since 1992, Mr Gray has overseen its development from a small private company to a substantial unlisted public company. He is responsible for the overall development in Vietnam and is a substantial shareholder. Mr Gray's practical exploration and mining experience enables him, with the support of Mr McCarthy, to ensure the wide geological expertise of the Axiom Mining explorationists is commercially focused. Mr Gray has not held any former directorships in the last 3 years.

  • J V (Jack) McCarthy, BSc (Maj. Geology), MAusIMM (Executive Director Geology)

Jack McCarthy graduated from St Francis Xavier University, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1974, majoring in geology. Immediately prior to moving to Hanoi with Axiom Mining in 1996 he was a director of Talon Environment Inc. and also general manager of Jasmetech Metal Technologies Inc. based in Montreal, Canada, applying and marketing Canadian developed soil remediation and cyanide and gold recovery technologies in North America. Earlier, Mr McCarthy had a long association with A.C.A. Howe International, in exploration and mining consulting through to general manager and director of A.C.A. Howe Australia Pty Ltd and alternate director of Jason Mining Limited. His work with A.C.A Howe Australia Pty Ltd involved property assessments and preparation of independent geological and valuation reports for the Australian and other international stock exchanges, financial institutions and brokerage houses. Mr McCarthy has been resident in Hanoi since June 1996 performing managerial, finance generation, property evaluation and geological supervisory roles on behalf of the Company. Mr McCarthy was appointed to the Board in 1996. Mr McCarthy has not held any former directorships in the last 3 years.

  • John Cook (Chairman, Non Executive Independent Director)

John Cook has more than 40 years experience as an institutional and high net worth adviser, specialising in the raising of capital for mining companies and is an authorised representative of Reynolds & Co Stockbrokers, Sydney. John began in the brokering industry with J.B. Were & Son in 1962 and ultimately ran the trading floor for a number of Sydney brokers between periods overseas. He ran his own business from 1975-79 and established the Sydney office of Pang Morgan & Co from 1985-88 before taking on the role of private client advisor with Reynolds. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Petaquilla Minerals which is listed on the Toronto, New York and Frankfurt Stock Exchanges and has a market cap of over C$200 million and he is President and Director of Petaquilla Copper Limited which is undergoing an IPO on the Toronto Stock Exchange. 

  • Kelvin Lee, BBus, CPA (Non Executive Director)

Kelvin Lee is Managing Director and heads the investment banking activities of VinaCapital, manager of VOF, the major shareholder of Axiom Mining at the date of this report. He has worked with VinaCapital since July 2005. Prior to joining VinaCapital, Mr Lee had 14 years in investment banking experience working in South East Asia. He was an advisory partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Indochina (Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos) and in Singapore, and prior to that , head of investment banking at Lippo Securities and managing director of AIG Private Equity in Jakarta. Mr Lee gained his initial experience working for the Chartered Accountants Arthur Andersen and Coopers l Lybrand in Melbourne. He brings to the Board of Axiom Mining diverse international investment banking experience coupled with knowledge of the operation of the Australian capital markets. Mr Lee was appointed to the Board on 14 June 2006.

Regional Management & Key Staff

Axiom values the contribution to its success and strong growth by all its staff and contractors. The company is continually building up its team of senior, exploration and drilling geologists, field technicians and other field and office support personnel.

Chief Financial Officer and Local Agent

  • Richard J Lane, MBA FCA FAIM MAICD

As the Company is registered in Australia as a foreign company, it is required to appoint a local agent for receipt of notices from both the Australian Stock Exchange Limited and the Australian Securities and Investment Commission. Richard Lane is both the Local Agent and the Chief Financial Officer for the Company. Mr Lane is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and has a Master of Business Administration degree from James Cook University. Mr Lane has 35 years experience in commercial accounting in Australia and has also lectured in the School of Law, and in the Masters Degree of Professional Accounting at James Cook University in North Queensland.

 

Ozmin Resources, Townsville, Queensland:

  • Lincoln Gray, Chief Executive Officer MAICD

Lincoln Gray brings a wealth of business experience to the Company. Previously operating within high end tourism, property development and major business refinancing, his experience and contacts have proved invaluable in making him the primary source of funds to Vietnam Resources Corporation over from 1994 to listing in 2006.

During 2004 to 2006 he was responsible for the identification, assessment and acquisition of the Company's Australian mineral projects.  Lincoln has subsequently pioneered the formation, establishment and running of Axiom Mining Limited's Australian subsidiary Ozmin Resources Pty Ltd.

  • John Weil, Manager - Special Projects  BSc Geol, FAusIMM

John has over 45 years experience in the exploration and mining industry ranging from fieldwork through to mine management and company directorships. Other activities included conceptual generation of projects and implementation/supervision of work programs and budgets, calculation of ore reserves, preparation of independent reports, scoping studies and valuations. During his career John has developed strong personal and business relationships in the geological and mining fraternity. John started his career with Mount Isa Mines (MIM), and has since worked for several other companies including Getty Mining, Australian Development, Pechiney/Minatome, AUR. Recently he was a director of Chillagoe Gold.

His exploration experience covers a broad range of geological terranes, mineralisation styles and commodities including Mount Isa style Cu-Pb-Zn deposits, Iron-oxide-Cu-Au deposits (IOCGs) of the Tennant Creek region, Hodgkinson Province and Georgetown Inlier porphyry and breccia related mineralisation, focusing on precious and base metals, and uranium. John's role involves the review and assessment of potential joint ventures, acquisitions, MLs and tenements.

Vietnam Resources Corp, Hanoi, Vietnam:

  • Simon Doyle, Senior Exploration Geologist Bsc (Geology), MAIG
Simon graduated from Macquarie University in Sydney in 1986 and has been involved with many successful projects from exploration to mine development in Western Australia and New South Wales, Australia.  He has worked for Western Mining Corporation, CRA Exploration and as a Senior Consultant on behalf of K H Morgan and Associates.  In 1997 and 1998 Simon worked as the Project Geologist for the Canadian company, Borneo Gold Corporation, supervising and conducting epithermal gold exploration and drilling programs in South East Kalimantan, Indonesia.  Since June 2006, Simon has been undertaking exploration programs in Vietnam on behalf of Axiom.
